Supine Twist is a gentle twist lying on your back, with the knees falling to one side. It is one of the most common ways Erin closes a class before Shavasana.

How to do Supine Twist

  1. Lie on your back and draw one or both knees into your chest.
  2. Guide your knees across your body to one side.
  3. Extend your arms out to the sides.
  4. Gaze the opposite way if that is comfortable for your neck.
  5. Let gravity do the work and breathe.

Common mistakes

  • Forcing the knees to the floor.
  • Lifting the opposite shoulder high off the mat.

Make it easier

  • Place a block or pillow under your knees.
  • Keep your knees stacked or staggered, whichever feels better.
