Side Plank

Vasisthasana

Side Plank balances on one hand and the outer edge of one foot, with the body turned to the side. It strengthens the core and the side body, and Erin always shows a modified version.

How to do Side Plank

  1. Start in high plank.
  2. Roll onto the outer edge of one foot and stack the other foot on top.
  3. Lift your top arm up toward the ceiling.
  4. Press the floor away and lift your hips a little higher.
  5. Keep your bottom hand under or slightly ahead of your shoulder.

Common mistakes

  • Letting the hips sag toward the floor.
  • Sinking into the shoulder of the supporting arm.

Make it easier

  • Drop your bottom knee to the floor.
  • Stagger your feet, top foot in front, instead of stacking them.
