Shavasana

Savasana

Shavasana, or final resting pose, is how nearly every Five Parks Yoga class ends. You lie on your back and let the body and the breath settle after the practice. It looks simple, but staying still on purpose is part of the work.

How to do Shavasana

  1. Lie on your back and extend your legs long.
  2. Let your feet fall open.
  3. Rest your arms alongside your body with your palms facing up.
  4. Take one deep breath in, then close your lips and slowly release it.
  5. Let your breath come back to its natural rhythm through your nose.
  6. Stay still for at least a few minutes, longer if you have the time.

Common mistakes

  • Skipping it or getting up after a few seconds.
  • Holding tension in the face or shoulders.

Make it easier

  • Place a rolled blanket or bolster under your knees if your low back feels tight.
  • Add a blanket for warmth or cover your eyes if that helps you settle.
