Mountain Pose

Tadasana

Mountain Pose, which Erin often calls tall mountain, is standing still with intention. It is the starting point for standing poses and sun salutations, and a good place to notice your balance and posture.

How to do Mountain Pose

  1. Stand with your feet hip distance apart or touching.
  2. Let your arms rest alongside your body with your palms facing out.
  3. Draw your shoulders down and away from your ears.
  4. Rock gently forward and back to find your weight centered over your feet.
  5. Lengthen up through the crown of your head.

Common mistakes

  • Locking the knees.
  • Letting the shoulders round forward or creep up.

Make it easier

  • Take your feet wider for more stability, or stand near a wall.
