Crescent Lunge

How to do it, and where Erin teaches it

Crescent Lunge is a high lunge with the back heel lifted and the arms reaching up. It builds leg strength and challenges your balance, and Erin often uses it as the base for twists and for Airplane.

How to do Crescent Lunge

  1. Step one foot forward with the knee over the ankle and the back heel lifted.
  2. Rise up so your wrists stack over your shoulders and your shoulders over your hips.
  3. Sink low into your legs.
  4. Stay active through your fingers.
  5. For a twist, bring your hands to your heart and hook the opposite elbow outside your front knee.

Common mistakes

  • Letting the front knee move past the ankle.
  • Arching hard through the low back.
  • Taking a stance so short that the front knee shoots forward.

Make it easier

  • Lower your back knee to the floor for Crescent Moon.
  • Keep your hands on your hips or your front thigh.
