Chair

Utkatasana

Chair Pose is a standing squat with the arms reaching up, as if you were sitting back into a chair. It builds heat and strength in the legs and glutes, and it is a regular in Erin's standing flows.

How to do Chair

  1. Stand with your feet hip distance apart or touching.
  2. Bend your knees and sit your hips back and low.
  3. Shift your weight back into your heels so you could wiggle your toes.
  4. Reach your arms up and relax your shoulders.
  5. Peek down and make sure you can see your toes past your knees.

Common mistakes

  • Letting the knees travel far past the toes.
  • Shrugging the shoulders up with the arms.

Make it easier

  • Keep your hands at your heart or on your thighs.
  • Do not sit as low.
