Bird Dog

How to do it, and where Erin teaches it

Bird Dog, which Erin calls spinal balance, extends one arm forward and the opposite leg back from hands and knees. It works the core and the muscles along the spine.

How to do Bird Dog

  1. Start in tabletop with a flat back.
  2. Extend one arm forward and the opposite leg back.
  3. Make one long line from your fingertips to your heel.
  4. Keep your hips and shoulders level.
  5. Keep your gaze down at your mat.

Common mistakes

  • Lifting the leg so high that the low back arches.
  • Tipping the hips open to one side.

Make it easier

  • Extend only the leg, or only the arm.
