Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before you land in Nosara

Our Nosara retreats run Saturday to Saturday, eight days and seven nights at Casas Kismet Yoga Resort. Coming up: November 14 to 21, 2026, then April 10 to 17 and November 13 to 20, 2027.

Fly into Liberia (LIR). It is much closer to Nosara than San José. From Liberia the drive is about 2.5 to 3 hours depending on roads and weather. From San José (SJO) it is closer to 4.5 to 5 hours.

Aim to land in Liberia between about 10:45am and 3:30pm on the first day. That lines up with our group shuttles. Check-in at Casas Kismet starts at 4:00pm, and the retreat opens around 6:00pm with a welcome, dinner at 6:30pm and the first yoga class around 7:30pm.

Look for a departing flight between 11:00am and 5:00pm on the last day. The final morning starts with yoga at 7:00am and breakfast at 8:30am, and checkout is by 11:00am. Shuttles leave about five hours before the earliest flight in your group, so a 1:00pm flight means an 8:00am shuttle.

The easiest way is one of our shared shuttles. They are $60 each way including taxes, and we schedule them around everyone’s flights. Just tell us your flight details on your travel form and we will put you on the right one about a week before the retreat. You can also take a short Sansa flight from Liberia to Nosara (usually mid-afternoon) or arrange your own ride, and we are happy to share drivers we trust.

We can still help. If your shuttle ends up with fewer than five people because of an early or late flight, there is an extra charge, up to $180 for one person traveling alone. Many guests avoid that by flying in the day before and staying at an airport hotel, and we will pick you up there.

These are the hotels our guests use most, and our shuttles pick up and drop off at the first three at no extra charge:

  • Hilton Garden Inn Liberia Airport, across the street from the airport
  • Hampton Inn Liberia Airport, also across the street
  • Hotel Santa Ana, the most economical option near the airport (a short taxi ride)
  • The Mangrove Hotel in Papagayo, about 20 minutes away on the beach, a favorite for a treat after the retreat (an extra shuttle fee applies to drop off there)

The airport hotels are convenient, not scenic, so they are best for one night.

Yes. Lagarta Lodge is right down the street from Casas Kismet, the Living Hotel is a small boutique favorite, and the Gilded Iguana is close to the best surf breaks.

  • Seven nights at Casas Kismet, tax included
  • Three healthy, local meals a day, with chicken, fish and vegan options
  • Two yoga classes a day
  • Guided meditation and breathwork
  • Journaling, with a journal we give you
  • Two group trips into town
  • Wifi
  • 45 Yoga Alliance continuing education hours for teachers

  • Your flights
  • The airport shuttle (we help arrange it)
  • Travel insurance
  • One dinner, on your night out in town
  • Spa services and adventure outings
  • Laundry (available for a small fee)
  • Tips

  • Yoga clothes, plus light clothing for 75 to 85 degree days
  • A light layer for cool evenings and a rain jacket
  • Swimsuit, sandals and walking shoes
  • Bug spray (mornings and sunsets especially)
  • A headlamp and a good water bottle
  • Your passport, with at least 90 days left before it expires

Casas Kismet provides mats, props and all towels, so your own mat is optional. Costa Rica uses the same plugs as the US.

Yes, bring some US dollars. Massages, adventure tours, local taxis and staff tips are paid in cash, and the nearest ATM is not within walking distance. US dollars and colones are both accepted, so there is no need to exchange money. Tours usually run $60 to $130 and in-room massages about $100 to $150.

Tips are always optional. Guests usually leave $75 to $100 in cash for the Casas Kismet staff at checkout, about $5 for a shuttle driver, and about $5 for a tour guide or massage therapist.

It is not required, but we recommend it. Guests have been glad to have it when a flight was delayed or plans changed. Buy it soon after booking: it is usually cheaper then, and “cancel for any reason” coverage is often only offered in the first week or two.

Yes. Tell us on your guest form and the Casas Kismet kitchen will adjust the menu for you.

Absolutely. Solo travelers are always welcome, and by the end of the week strangers have a way of becoming friends.

No. We help everyone book adventures, activities and massages on the first morning of the retreat.

Yes. Each retreat earns 45 Yoga Alliance continuing education hours.

A 50% deposit holds your spot. The balance is due about 90 days before the retreat, and from that point payments are not refundable.
