Saturday Morning Yoga Class: Reflect

Journal Prompt: Release

I hope you will take this opportunity to spend time in your space in the spirit of RELEASE

Take time to read and reflect upon these quotes and then answer the question below.

“Even though you may want to move forward in your life, you may have one foot on the brakes. In order to be free, we must learn how to let go. Release the hurt. Release the fear. Refuse to entertain your old pain. The energy it takes to hang onto the past is holding you back from a new life. What is it you would let go of today?” Mary Manin Morrisey

“Sometimes you don’t realize the weight of something you’ve been carrying until you feel the weight of its release.”

“I took it off. I did not want to carry it with me anymore.”

Mantra: “I release all things from the past year that have caused any negative attachment. I prepare and welcome new changes, new lessons and new adventures. I welcome new opportunities to grow emotionally, mentally and spiritually.”

JOURNAL PROMPT:

WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN CARRYING THIS LAST YEAR THAT YOU COULD LET GO OF? IS THIS A RELATIONSHIP, A HABIT, A GRUDGE? WHAT WOULD IT FEEL LIKE TO BE FREE OF THIS WEIGHT? WHAT DO YOU NEED TO DO TO RELEASE THIS WEIGHT?

Meditation: Walking Meditation

WALKING MEDITATION is a powerful practice in its own right and a complement to a seated meditation practice. Walking meditation is just as effective as sitting for developing stable attention and mindfulness. I will guide you through the practice of stabilizing your attention while increasing your awareness while you walk or hike. During this practice, you will focus your attention on the soles of your feet, rather than on the breath at the nose. Alternatively, you can use the sensations in the muscles, joints, and tendons of your legs as the meditation object. I will guide you into this practice and then you can enjoy this time with your breath and the sounds of nature.

Chant: Ra Ma

I hope you enjoy participating in this practice of chanting Ra Ma Da Sa Sa Say So Hung. You can practice with a Mala, which is a string of 108 beads. A mala can help you keep your mind on the process. If you don’t have a Mala, it is not a problem, because I will be counting the rounds as I guide you in the practice. We will be practicing a quarter mala, which is 27 rounds of chanting. You can continue on your own if you are inspired to chant 108 rounds.

We will be practicing the chant Ra Ma Da Sa Sa Say So Hung, which translates from Sanskrit to English as “A call upon the energy of the sun, moon, earth, and the infinite spirit to bring deep healing.”

Chant this mantra for yourself or for someone else in the spirit of healing.
